Quick Fix

If you notice a red light on your Xfinity modem, it indicates a lack of internet connection. To resolve this, you can try restarting the modem or resetting it to its original factory settings. If these steps fail to restore your internet connection, the next recommended course of action is to get in touch with Xfinity customer service for further assistance.

Being an avid Xfinity Internet user for years, I have encountered countless issues, but mostly, I found the solutions on their forums.

But recently, when I found a blinking red light on my Xfinity modem, I tried to find the solution online and failed. I called customer support, and they couldn’t manage to fix it either.

Why is my Xfinity Router Blinking Red?

The red light on Xfinity modem means no internet! So, you either wait for a professional to knock on your door or do it yourself.

Now, I am all alone and have to find a solution on my own for the Xfinity modem red light issue.

Here come extensive hours of researching through their forums, some online youtube tutorials, and, of course, going through their manual.

Symptoms of Red Light on your Xfinity Router

In 9 out of 10 cases, the Xfinity router blinking red occurs because of disconnection from the service.

Other possible reasons are hardware issues in the router or damaged or bent cables. A power surge can also cause red light because of the disruption in the power supply to the modem.

In case of the Xfinity Service is down, you have no other option but to wait for Xfinity to fix the connection.

To get you in a good mood, I have mentioned some fixes below so you may not suffer like me.

Xfinity Service Down

Before attempting to resolve the issue, ensure that the Xfinity service is not down and working perfectly in your area. Because if the service is down, you can not do anything to fix it yourself; you must have to wait for the officials to fix the issue.

Any disconnection in the fiber optics can cause a service outage, and you need to contact customer support to get them to fix it.

You can log in to your Xfinity account and check the Xfinity Service Status to find it out.

How to Fix the Red Light on your Xfinity Router?

The procedure of troubleshooting a red light in an Xfinity router or any modem is almost the same.

Let’s have a look at them thoroughly.

1. Restart your Xfinity Router

Restart your Xfinity Router

Restart has the power to cure most of the tech issues we face today because any electronic device terminates all processes and returns to a blank state after restarting.

  1. So, for the sake and love of Xfinity, turn off your router.
  2. Unplug the power cord.
  3. Just leave your router unplugged for 30 seconds.
  4. After 30 seconds, plug it back in and turn on your router.

If any minor issue caused the red light, it would be fixed.

2. Check the Cables for any Damage or Bents

Check the Cables for any Damage or Bents

Inspect your modem cables closely. Look at every single cable on the modem and push the connectors inside.

Inspect for any physical damage to the cable, which includes peeling of insulation or fraying of the wires.

If you find any damaged cables, disconnect them carefully by pushing the connector upside down and then pulling it out. Replace those cables with new ones. You can find ethernet cables on Amazon Easily. After replacing, plug them tightly, and make sure the connector is appropriately inside.

Make sure your fiber optics has no bents, as it is incredibly fragile and can break from the insides because of bents.

3. Power Issues

Power Issues

Your Xfinity router might be facing connectivity issues because it is not getting enough power.

It is a widespread issue as people use surge protectors and power strips most of the time.

Plug your router directly into the power outlet instead of surge protectors, which might fix the red light on Xfinity modem.

4. Remove the Splitter

The red light on your router and internet disconnection might result from a broken or malfunctioning splitter.

The best option is to bypass the splitter and connect your ethernet connection directly to the primary router.

This procedure would resolve the problem if the splitter were the root of it.

5. Plug an Ethernet cable directly

Plug an Ethernet cable directly

Another common issue in these modems is related to the WiFi only. The modem is only causing trouble with WiFi, and your LAN might be working perfectly without you knowing.

So to fix it, follow the steps below:

  1. Plug an ethernet cable directly into your PC or laptop from the modem.
  2. Enable your LAN.
  3. If the internet starts working, your modem has hardware issues that are only causing Wireless internet issues.

6. Hard Reset the Router

Hard resetting your modem/router will erase all of the custom network settings, so proceed with caution and ensure that you have your network password, network name, and all of the credentials written down.

  1. The reset button is deep inside a circle, so it is impossible to press it with your fingers, so get a sim ejector tool or any pin. (In my case, I used my wife’s hairpin)
  2. Put the pin inside the circle, press the reset button, and hold for 10 seconds. (You will hear a clicking sound when the button is pressed)
  3. Once the modem is reset, it will have all the factory settings, so you have to log in and update your network settings which you have written down.

Last Thoughts on Xfinity Router Red Light

Well, I rest my case. That is all you need to know about red light blinking issues on your modem.

You can try troubleshooting your Xfinity router following the guides I have listed above, and if they are not working for you, try calling Comcast.

Even after trying the solutions, you still face the red light issue because either your modem has hardware issues or the Xfinity service outage. So, the best option you have is to contact them.

If you are done with Xfinity and want to switch to another network, make sure you go through the Xfinity Early Termination procedure to avoid the cancellation fee.
